With the 2021 show season just around the corner, I wanted to check in and go over my Class IV Therapeutic laser (PBMT) benefits.
There are four broad areas where photobiomodulation (PBMT) is of great benefit to the equine athlete. These are:
- To accelerate the rehabilitation and healing of many common lameness disorders.
- To maintain the peak performance within any equine athletic discipline.
- To prevent the occurrence or recurrence of athletic injuries.
- As an essential component of stem cell and PRP treatment protocols.
One of the most important aspects of equine sports medicine is the maintenance of these athletes at their highest level of performance. Deep- tissue laser therapy is an invaluable tool for this endeavor.
All athletes have to endure the rigors of training. This training results in pain and soreness. Weekly maintenance therapeutic laser applications allow these equine athletes to recover faster and therefore train more efficiently.
The ability to use laser therapy to prevent injuries is often overlooked. How important would it be to establish blood flow and elasticity within the tissues of the suspensory ligament in an equine athlete predisposed to stress in this area before a competitive event?
Deep- penetrating laser therapy accomplishes this therapeutic goal.
When we work in the ring, we are working endurance, skills and muscle memory. The laser works in the same way on the muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints and cells. By keeping inflammation & scar tissue at bay, the body can stay healthy.
Weekly treatments alternate between the poll, neck, back. S-I and haunches and then all the joints, fetlocks, hocks, stifles & suspensories. For muscle work, the horses get a massage at the same time – two treatments in one.
Working the different groups – muscles one week & joints the alternate week, we cover the entire horse every 2 weeks. We always laser the spur areas to prohibit desensitization. And of course, we can add any areas of concern as they arise., i.e. spur marks, summer sores, cuts & abrasions, etc.
I also work on dogs.
I will be offering discounts on weekly maintenance treatments. The usual rate is $150.00 for a 60 minute treatment. For horses on weekly maintenance treatments, I will be charging $125.00. A savings of $25.00!
I have the best job in the world & feel truly blessed to be able to help keep our beloved horses happy & healthy!
